The Bird's Opening: Queen Mate (MacBrayne–Crichton) is a classic chess opening trap arising from the Bird's opening. In this line Black delivers checkmate on move 8, punishing a natural-looking but losing idea from White.
The full sequence runs 1.f4 e5 2.fxe5 d6 3.exd6 Bxd6 4.Nf3 g5 5.d4 g4 6.Ng5 c5 7.h3 Bg3+ 8.Kd2 Qxd4#. Each move looks reasonable, which is exactly why the trap is so effective over the board — White walks into it while trying to play "normal" developing moves.
